Online Registration Tips
I registered/donated online using PayPal but I’m not showing up in the system yet.
PayPal transactions can take 24-48 hours to process at some times. Once PayPal completes the transaction your registration/donation should become active. If it hasn’t after 48 hours contact the registration coordinator at registration@nationalraceforthecure.org
I’m trying to register now but the system says I’m already registered.
If someone else has registered on the computer and used the remember me function the system believes you are them. You need to click the bottom left menu option to logout of Race Center then attempt to register. Only one person may register under a login.
I’m trying to register now but the system says my login is already in use.
One of two things is happening. If you participated in 2007 you need to use the link at top for autofill. This allows you to log in using your 2007 login and password and fills the fields out for you with last year’s information, which you can update. OR if this is your first time participating it’s very possible the login name you’ve tried is already in use. Try adding numbers to the front of the name you have selected rather than the end. This generally clears up the issue.
I keep getting an error saying I must select a magazine.
Both CondeNast magazine subscription questions are mandatory fields. If you do not want the subscription, answer “No” on the first question and answer “No Option” on the second question.
I don’t want anything to do with the free magazine subscription offer.
The Race designed the magazine offer as a potential optional benefit to Komen National Race for the Cure online registrants, but only if they wish to participate. If you do not wish to participate, there is absolutely no obligation and no next step is necessary, other than selecting "no" in the drop down box, when asked if you'd like to participate in the offer and “no option” for the magazine choice. The Race and Komen will not share any of your information with CondeNast without your permission.
The option of receiving a cash refund in the confirmation email is on option offered by CondeNast to those participants who do not want the magazine subscription. That offer is strictly between CondeNast and the participant and not the Komen National Race for the Cure. If you need any information from Condenast about the offer you can reach them at 1-800-274-6111.
I mistyped my address, how do I fix it?
When you log into your Race Center, click the Tools tab on the top menu line. This allows you to update your information.
I’ve registered but what are gadgets?
The gadgets tab are items that can be used on social web sites such as MySpace. They are similar to the thermometer and participant meter on individual pages. Select the gadget you would like to use and paste it into your MySpace page to activate the gadget. The gadgets do not work on Facebook but there are several teams with groups on Facebook and the race is an event that Facebook members can add to their event calendars.
I’m the team captain but my team page still says “Awaiting Team captain.”
The race staff needs to be alerted that you have registered so that they can make you the team captain. Email teams@nationalforthecure.org and provide your name and the name of your team that needs to have the captain assigned.
I can’t get my team’s thermometer or participant meter to show up.
Check under the Tools tab in your Race Center. Near the bottom under Event Information team captains have the ability to edit the team’s goals. If these goals are left blank the thermometer and meter will not activate.
If the goals are set and these items are not showing when you preview your team page make sure you are not using the Firefox browser or that your pop up blocker is not disabling the application.
When and where are the One-Stop registration sites?
One-Stop registration sites for the 2008 Komen National Race for the Cure take place on weekends in May throughout Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. Click here to find dates and locations.
If I register at a One-Stop site for the Race, how do I get my t-shirt and bib?
Registrants are given their bib and t-shirt at the one-stop location when they register.
Please note: Sleep-In for the Cure® ($ always shipped) and Komen Kids for the Cure® t-shirts and bibs will not be available at One-Stop locations.
You can still register for these options, but your materials will be shipped to you OR you can pick up Susan G. Komen Kids for the Cure® packets at Late Registration.
If I mail in my entry form, how do I get my t-shirt and bib?
If you select “with shipping” your t-shirt and bib will be mailed to you.
If you choose not to have your packet shipped to you, you must pick up your Race packet at Late Registration OR on Race day at the t-shirt and bib pick up tent.
What sizes do the t-shirts come in?
Register online with shipping and select your t-shirt size.
If you register online with shipping sizes are SM, MED, L, XL, XXL, XXXL (while supplies last) .
All other adult registration types will receive adult Race t-shirts in size XL.
Komen Kids for the Cure® t-shirts will be available in Youth Small (6-8) and Youth Medium (10-12) and Youth Large (14-16).
Can I buy a T-shirt?
No. We do not sell the T-shirts. The price is the $ entry fee and a completed & signed registration form.
If I miss the Race, will you mail me my T-shirt?
T-shirts are never mailed post-Race due to budgetary constraints. You can pick up your t-shirt at the Komen National Race office post-Race. Please contact us before arriving.
What portion of my ENTRY FEE is tax deductible?
None. The IRS does not allow deductions when you receive items of value for the entry fee. Donations and Pledges are tax deductible.
Can I include a pledge with my registration money?
If you would like to register and make a pledge to a participant, you must write two checks. Pledge money must be kept separate from registration fees because it is processed differently for tax purposes.
How do I form a team?
Please visit the Teams link on our web site www.nationalraceforthecure.org. Complete instructions on how to form a team are available on the Teams page.
Can I volunteer for the Race?
Yes, please visit the Volunteer Opportunities page of our web site for information.
What time does Metro open?
Metro will open at 5:00 am. Participants should exit at one of the following stops: Metro Center, Federal Triangle, Smithsonian, or Navy Archives Memorial.
Avoid the long lines at Metro fare card machines on Race morning! Get a One-day pass of unlimited rides starting at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2008. Passes are available online at www.metroopensdoors.com and from fare card machines at any Metro station.
Are there any goodie bags or give-aways?
Only survivors receive goodie bags. They can be picked up at Survivor Registration on May 29 or May 30 at the Washington Post, at Late Registration on June 5 or June 6 at Department of Commerce or Race Day at the Survivor Goodie Bag Tent across from the Survivor Tent near the Main Stage. A pink survivor bib is required at the time the goodie bag is picked up.
Are any hotels offering a special rate for Race Day Participants?
Information TBD
I have battled ovarian cancer, can I register as a survivor?
No, only breast cancer survivors are allowed to register as a survivor for the Komen National Race for the Cure. All of the funds raised through this event go towards research, screening, education, and treatment of breast cancer.
Can I participate as a survivor in honor of my mother who passed away from breast cancer two years ago?
No, participants may only register as a survivor if they themselves have been diagnosed with breast cancer and they wish to be recognized as a breast cancer survivor by wearing a pink bib and pink t-shirt.
If you would like to participate in "Celebration Of" or in "Memory Of" a breast cancer survivor please pick-up a Zeta Tau Alpha/ReMax back sign at any one-stop location, late registration or on Race morning at the T-shirt and Bib Tent. This is a great way to honor a breast cancer survivor with a personal touch!
Can I bring my dog to run with me?
No, past accidents require that pets be prohibited from the Race. Service animals are allowed.
Can I push a stroller during the Race?
Yes, but you must start the Race at the end of the Walker's Start.
Can I use skates or a skateboard?
For the safety of participants, all skates and skateboards are discouraged from this event.
Do children have to pay to participate in the Race?
Yes, if the child wants to receive a t-shirt and bib and accompany an adult in the 5K.
We also offer a shorter, special Susan G. Komen Kids for the Cure® Race to be held on the National Mall. For more information, please visit www.nationalraceforthecure.org.
Is there a discount for senior citizens, survivors or children?
Entry fees for Susan G. Komen Kids for the Cure® Race are less than the Komen National Race, but those wishing to participate in the National Race must pay the full registration fee. Funds raised go to breast cancer research and education and are critical in our efforts to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.
